Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines urban change and land cover in Al-Mansouriya Subdistrict during the period from 1995 to 2025. The researcher employed Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing techniques to analyze changes in urban areas (built-up land) and land cover within Al-Mansouriya Subdistrict. To achieve this objective, two satellite images acquired in 1995 and 2025 from the U.S. Landsat satellite series were processed and analyzed. The findings revealed a clear change in urban areas (built-up land), which experienced a significant increase of 10.3 km². In contrast, cultivated land witnessed a notable decrease of 116.1 km². Barren land also recorded a substantial increase of 146.9 km², representing the land-cover category that underwent the greatest change. In addition, water bodies and rangelands experienced decreases in their respective areas.
